Day trips

Hello my lovelies,
We finally had a road trip (well, it was a day trip), and by we I mean Jane and I. It was basically a lot of driving, pods, a mixture of music and interesting weather. So basically, it was perfect.
I won’t waste too much time, we can go straight to the outfit breakdown. My life struggle is between comfortable and stylish. I tend to only have two mediums: comfortable and hobo, or very uncomfortable and elegant. Considering the amount of driving and the weather though, I figured it wouldn’t be appropriate to pull out my thigh high boots and strapless tops. Instead, I went with my fail safe sweater dress. This one is simple and grey from H&M. I’ll be honest, I got it from the sleepwear section, but I thought it’d be perfect for cold days at uni so I went ahead and bought it. It’s definetly one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe because its so versatile and easy to pair with anything. It was cold in the morning, so I layered on an oversized patterned poncho. This is a bit of a bold piece and I’ve found it hard to pair with things over the years. You really need to have a simple base to avoid overdoing the patterns and prints. A simple basic top or dress undearneath something so heavily patterned is always better so you can draw more attention to that item of clothing and stay simplistic.
In all honesty, the scarf was purchased about ten minutes before these photos were taken. Jane and I went into a little store and tried our hardest not to buy everything. It was just one of those pieces that I fell in love with instantly and struggled to find reasons to put it down, and it went perfectly with my outfit.
For shoes I went with my trusty ugg boots. I was going with a very light themed outfit, so I tried to stay away from my black Docs. Ugg boots are so warm and easy to throw on with an outfit. I seriously suggest investing some money in a good pair for winter, no matter how girly or ordinary it may seem.
Okay, so I’ve also included some shots of Jane’s outfit because hers was on point as well hehe She’s got on these really awesome print harem pants and a simple white long sleeved shirt. See what I mean about the basics and the prints? You really only want to draw attention to one insane print and leave the rest nice and simplistic. She has sandals on, which is a nice touch. I think they work better than boots as boots may make the outfit a little too chunky. So there you have it, a breakdown of both our fabulous outfits for the day!
As for the day itself, you really should have seen how beautiful it was. The sun was out and we spent some time wandering around and shopping. There were these home ware stores that stocked everything from pillows to soap and scented candles. If I had my own home, that’s how I wanted it to look. I’ve never seen the saying ‘less is more’ embodied so well.
On the way back we found the most adorable little cafĂ© called ‘A Mini Kitchen’ (in case you want to have a look). The tea selection was insane (I’m doing a month without caffeine, please don’t ask me why, I’m devastated when I have to politely decline the offers of free coffee at work). Everything was so aesthetically pleasing and the details were perfect. They had tiny little blackboards with string as nametags for their homemade cakes, a bicycle with white flowers in the basket sitting idly in the corner and these gorgeous vintage inspired teacups. You honestly couldn't go wrong.
On the drive home to Melbourne we couldn't help but stop on the side of the freeway to take some scenic shots. It was cold, random and everyone was wondering what these two idiots were doing in the middle of a field but we did it anyway. And that’s how you spend a day with good company, good food and ridiculously good outfit choices.
Until next time,

Amy.
